Race Report

RACE-2 THE CHENGDU (SAND) RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (159)

2 Nozi Cyclone (L Corrales) - Shifted in slightly on jumping, checking 7 Blasting Power and then became unbalanced when placed in restricted room by 3 Sheng Tong Baby which shifted out. Raced keenly through the middle stages.
4 Premier Choice (Apprentice A Liu) - Hung out rounding the home turn.
5 Easy Ace (S H Huang) - Shifted inwards on jumping, contacting 7 Blasting Power and became very unbalanced.
6 Victory Thunder (M Alvarez) - Severely checked approaching the 50 metres (see inquiry report)
7 Blasting Power (Apprentice X C Liang) - On jumping away, was checked when tightened for room between 5 Easy Ace and 2 Nozi Cyclone and as a result lost ground (3L).

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 50 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 7 Blasting Power (Apprentice X C Liang) in the presence of his Master Trainer M C Tam and 6 Victory Thunder (M Alvarez). Apprentice X C Liang, rider of 7 Blasting Power, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 50 metres, he shifted his mount out from behind 5 Easy Ace to obtain clear running when insufficiently clear of 6 Victory Thunder which had to be severely checked. Apprentice X C Liang had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Saturday, 18 March and Saturday, 25 March 2023 and was issued a fine of HKD 7,000. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into account Apprentice X C Liang’s careless riding record, his guilty plea, the degree of carelessness and level of interference as well as other mitigating factors. He was advised of his Rights of Appeal.
