Race Report

RACE-5 THE SHANGHAI (Div.1) RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (167)

2 Bewarethewag (K F Choi) - Was resaddled behind the barriers. Approaching the 100 metres was inconvenienced after being brushed by 7 Hostwin Apollo. Approaching the winning post became unbalanced after being bumped by 5 Ronson which shifted out whilst being ridden along. Jockey S H Huang the rider of 5 Ronson was severely reprimanded and notified that he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount when in similar circumstances.
4 Star Of Venus (L Corrales) - On jumping away had to be checked from the heels of 9 Golden Rose which shifted out slightly. Had to be steadied when racing keenly and close to heels approaching the 800 metres.
5 Ronson (S H Huang) -Jockey S H Huang was reprimanded for raising his arm over shoulder height on several occasions in the straight.
6 Charity Gold (W H Lao) - Raced keenly in the back straight. Approaching the 100 metres shifted out and away from 5 Ronson, stepped awkwardly and checked 7 Hostwin Apollo. Became unbalanced and was turned during this incident.
7 Hostwin Apollo (M Tanaka) - Severely checked approaching the 100 metres (see inquiry report)
8 Chili Refreshing (I Poullis) - Checked passing the 100 metres (see inquiry).
10 River Pentium (Y M Choi) - Was marginally slow to begin and was then steadied to avoid the heels of 8 Chili Refreshing which shifted in abruptly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 100 metres. Evidence was taken from riders of 2 Bewarethewag (K F Choi), 7 Hostwin Apollo (M Tanaka), 6 Charity Gold (W H Lao) and 5 Ronson (S H Huang). It was established that around the 150 metres 7 Hostwin Apollo was racing in restricted room between 2 Bewarethewag and 6 Charity Gold. Then approaching the 100 metres 5 Ronson shifted out abruptly to attempt to obtain a run between 8 Chili Refreshing and 6 Charity Gold where there was questionable room. This resulted in 6 Charity Gold shifting out and away from 5 Ronson, stepping awkwardly and checking 7 Hostwin Apollo. When 7 Hostwin Apollo was being checked 6 Charity Gold became turned resulting in its rider having difficulty in relieving the pressure. In all the circumstances, the Stewards did not hold any one rider responsible for the incident and notified all riders that they must exercise the utmost care when in similar circumstances.

The Stewards inquired into an incident passing the 100 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 9 Golden Rose (Apprentice A Liu) and 8 Chili Refreshing (I Poullis). Apprentice A Liu the rider of 9 Golden Rose was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that passing the 100 metres, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 8 Chili Refreshing, which had to be checked. Apprentice A Liu had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 racemeeting (date of meeting to be advised) and was issued a fine of HKD 6,000. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into account Apprentice A Liu’s plea, his careless riding record, the degree of carelessness and level of interference as well as other mitigating factors. He was advised of his Rights of Appeal.
