Race Report

RACE-5 THE WESTPORT RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1200 METRES (197)

2 Romantique (Apprentice Tesuri) - Commenced awkwardly and lost ground (1L).
3 Destiny Flight (K F Choi) - Performed below market expectation. Rider stated his mount traveled well throughout the event, however in his opinion would be better suited over further ground than the 1200 metres of tonight’s event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Hundred Victories (C Perkins) - From the 300 metres until near the 200 metres had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run before then shifting to the outside of 1 Fit Lite to obtain clear running.
5 Georgian Ease (M Alvarez) - Approaching the 500 metres had to be steadied from the heels of 6 Wealthy Land which after shifting in, steadied the pace. Laid out in the straight, resulting in the rider having difficulty in riding the gelding out in his usual manner.
6 Wealthy Land (Apprentice A Liu) - Approaching the 100 metres was bumped by 2 Romantique which shifted out after being struck with the whip. As a result became unbalanced. Apprentice Tesuri the rider of 2 Romantique was notified to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Rider Apprentice A Liu explained when questioned that he had been instructed to ride the gelding where it was comfortable, however not to lead. He said that it commenced very well, however he was mindful of his instructions and for this reason, he elected to restrain his mount in the early stages in order to comply with those instructions. He said that although he was caught three wide, his mount was traveling well and within itself before he was able to obtain cover being 7 Guillocharm near the 600 metres
7 Guillocharm (M Tanaka) - Passing the 200 metres was bumped outwards by 4 Hundred Victories which had shifted out to obtain a clear run. The Stewards questioned Trainer K C Tse as to the instructions issued today when the horse led which is contrary to its usual racing pattern. He said that the gelding had trialled well recently and showed good speed that day. He added that this evening, he had instructed the rider to attempt to lead if possible, otherwise to take a mid field position. The Stewards reminded Trainer K C Tse to notify them in the event of a change of tactic.
