Race Report
RACE-3 THE TIMARU RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1500 METRES (200)

1 Bygone Era (M Tanaka) - Passing the 200 metres had to be steadied to avoid heels of 6 Famous Talent.
2 Out To Win (C Perkins) - Threw its head up when the gates were released and lost a little ground. Was severely checked passing the 300 metres (see inquiry report).
3 Fifer (L Corrales) - Was held up for some considerable distance rounding the home turn. After passing the 300 metres had to change course abruptly to the outside of 2 Out To Win which had been taken inwards.
8 Master Hunter (S H Huang) - Was severely hampered passing the 300 metres (see inquiry report).
9 Who Loves Sushi (Apprentice A Liu) - Commenced very awkwardly, unbalancing the rider and bumped 1 Bygone Era. Cast its left front plate.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards to review the patrol films for interference inside the 200 metres.
Following the race, Jockey M Tanaka the rider of 1 Bygone Era (4th placed horse) requested to see the footage of the race and after reviewing the patrol films did not proceed to lodge an objection.
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey C Perkins the rider of 2 Out To Win ( 2nd placed) against the 4 Cheers Brothers (Apprentice X C Liang) being declared the winner by the judge for alleging interference inside the 300 metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice X C Liang and Mr. J Lau the Trainer of 4 Cheers Brothers and Jockey C Perkins and Messrs N Moore and G W Moore, trainers of 2 Out To Win. After considering the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that should 2 Out To Win have not suffered the interference, it would have finished ahead of 4 Cheers Brothers and for this reason, the objection was upheld and the Judge’s placings amended as follows:

1st 2 Out To Win (C Perkins)
2nd 4 Cheers Brothers (Apprentice X C Liang)
3rd 6 Famous Talent (I Poullis)
4th 1 Bygone Era (M Tanaka)

At a later inquiry Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 4 Cheers Brothers pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that passing the 300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of 2 Out To Win (C Perkins) resulting in that horse being taken in off its course making heavy contact with 8 Master Hunter (S H Huang) and being severely checked and blundering. In this incident 8 Master Hunter was also severely hampered and blundered, and 3 Fifer (L Corrales) had to change course to avoid the interference ahead. Apprentice X C Liang’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of three racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday 28 April and Saturday 29 April and Saturday 6 May 2023 and issued a fine of HKD5,000. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Apprentice X C Liang’s guilty plea, his riding record, the degree of interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his right of appeal.
