Race Report

RACE-1 THE SAN ANTONIO RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1510 METRES (223)

3 Sheng Tong Master (K F Choi) - Raced three wide without cover throughout.
4 Bring Me Glory (K H Yu) - Shifted out slightly on jumping and brushed 3 Sheng Tong Master. Unplaced favourite. Rider could offer no excuses for the performance today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Da Fa Loi (I Poullis) - I Poullis was questioned regarding his riding in the back straight. In particular as to why he appeared to be restraining his mount when he had the opportunity to let it stride and obtain a position closer to 7 Beautiful Nineteen. He stated that his mount has a habit of dropping the bit mid-race in previous races, and he was of the opinion that the tempo was too quick, and he also wanted to keep 5 Da Fa Loi travelling on the bit. He said that the gelding did not respond as he would have expected when placed under pressure and his opinion is better suited on the turf track. Jockey I Poullis was notified to ensure he rides all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
6 Who Fancies You (S H Huang) - Stewards questioned S H Huang regarding 6 Who Fancies You getting out of its ground after commencing the turn into the back straight and if he could have shown more vigor in an attempt to make ground on the rest of the field sooner than what he did. He stated that the gelding was making an unusual respiratory noise, and although he was niggling his mount, he was reluctant to put it under greater pressure due to the noise it was making. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present 6 Who Fancies You to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination and an endoscopic examination on Saturday, 13 May 2023.
7 Beautiful Nineteen (C Perkins) - Passing the 600 metres had to be steadied when close to heels of 2 Numberone Mingxuan.
9 Beauty Legend (M Alvarez) - After jumping away was inconvenienced when tightened for room between 5 Da Fa Loi and 3 Sheng Tong Master which shifted out slightly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident after passing the 400 metres. It was established that 9 Beauty Beauty (M Alvarez) had to be steadied when tightened for room by 7 Beautiful Nineteen (C Perkins), when both horses were attempting a run where there was questionable room to the inside of 1 Superlative Choice (Apprentice A Liu) which rolled in marginally. As Stewards believed there were contributing factors, no action was taken, however they notified all riders to exercise the utmost care at all times.

Stewards inquired into the reason why C Perkins (7 Beautiful Nineteen, second place getter) failed to weigh-in in this event. He explained that he wasn’t feeling particularly well and after entering the weighing room, he placed his saddle in view of the Clerk of Scales and inadvertently proceeded straight to the Jockeys Room. C Perkins when alerted did weigh with the gear that he rode in and weighed in at the correct weight. Stewards were also satisfied that his mount carried the correct weight. C Perkins was fined the sum of HKD 1000 under MJC Rule 14 (xvii)(a) negligence for failing to weigh-in.
