Race Report

RACE-4 THE MEMPHIS RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (231)

1 Star Of City Gold (L Corrales) - A post veterinary examination revealed that 1 Star Of City Gold has sustained a laceration to the right hind foot.
7 Mystery Dancer (S Nakano) - Approaching the 200 metres, when attempting to improve to the outside of 3 Sincefoon Hero, was then shifted in abruptly to the inside of 3 Sincefoon Hero,which shifted out slightly.
10 City Gold Mars (C Perkins) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted upon 10 City Gold Mars, in particular why it was restrained heavily in the back straight.

Trainer J Lau stated that he had instructed rider C Perkins to settle mid-field on the fence and to avoid being caught wide and to save ground on the rail as he was of the opinion that the ground, although heavy, was no worse on the rail than wider on the track. He added that he was satisfied with the ride of C Perkins who rode to his instructions. Rider C Perkins confirmed the instructions received and stated that after being caught wide into the back straight, he commenced to restrain his mount to comply with instructions and with a view of obtaining a position behind 2 Whatever I Say, however 5 Fortune Lady had made ground behind 2 Whatever I Say which prevented him from obtaining cover behind that gelding. He said for this reason, he then continued to restrain his mount to obtain a position on the rail as instructed. He said that his visibility was not good and he was not aware that the leaders had established a large break. He said when he did place his mount under pressure rounding the home turn, he was able to save considerable ground. He added that although the gelding ran on fairly, it dipped on a number of occasions during the race because it was not comfortable in today’s track conditions. In all the circumstances, Stewards took no action, however notified C Perkins to ensure he rides all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
