Race Report

RACE-2 THE SAO PAULO RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (244)

3 Esteeming (S Nakano) - For some distance approaching the 400 metres had to be restrained when close to heels of 4 Vibrant City.
4 Vibrant City (C L Cheung) - Raced keenly through the middle stages. Stewards questioned rider C L Cheung regarding his actions in the straight and why he looked to his outside on several occasions before easing his mount down. He explained that after entering the home straight he heard a call back to his outside and he checked to ensure that he wasn’t causing interference to other riders. He added that his mount was then uncomfortable in its action and he felt something may be amiss. For this reason, he eased it down in the concluding stages. His comments were noted.
Trainer K M Chin was informed that he would be required to present 4 Vibrant City to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 28 May 2023.
5 Show Down (Y M Choi) - Approaching the 50 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 7 Colonel Mordaunt, after being taken out slightly by 6 Happy Happy Happy (K H Yu) which shifted out before being corrected by its rider, K H Yu was notified that he must exercise greater care when in similar circumstances. Approaching the winning post when being ridden along, shifted out and away from 6 Happy Happy Happy which shifted out slightly, and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of 7 Colonel Mordaunt.
6 Happy Happy Happy (K H Yu) - Commenced a little awkwardly. Shifted out when struck with the whip approaching the 100 metres, inconveniencing 5 Show Down. Rider explained when questioned that he had been instructed to settle 3rd or 4th if possible, however not to be caught wide. He said that he attempted to go forward in the early stages, however he was caught three wide without cover to the outside of 7 Colonel Mordaunt. He said that the rider of 7 Colonel Mordaunt was pushing his mount along to hold its position, so he elected to ease 6 Happy Happy Happy and obtain a position closer to the rail to comply with his instructions. He added that after entering the home straight his mount was changing legs and became unbalanced and he was not happy with its action. He highlighted his mount shifted out resulting in him having to stop riding and correct the gelding near the 50 metres. His comments were noted.
