Race Report

RACE-4 THE ROTHERHAM RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (98)

2 Goal Achiever (C L Cheung) -Near the 1250 metres raced ungenerously for a short distance. Raced wide without cover from the 500 metres.
3 Beat The Market (L Corrales) -On entering the home straight brushed with 7 Die Casting Alloy (K H Yu). A post race swab was taken for analysis. Rider was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than that his mount traveled well in the run however was once paced under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Ready Fire (M Tanaka) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Autumn Cloud (D Barros) -Raced wide without cover until near the 750 metres.
7 Die Casting Alloy (K H Yu) -Near the1200 metres commenced to race fiercely and then had to be checked when racing between 3 Beat The Market and 1 Ocean Warrior. After taking evidence from all riders and viewing the available footage, the Stewards deemed this to be a racing incident and took no further action other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances. On entering the home straight brushed with 3 Beat The Market.
9 Captain Brentford (W H Lao) -Near the 1250 had to be checked.
10 Ronson (W L Ho) -Was slow to begin. Near the 150 metres was obliged to alter course outwards away from the heels of 2 Goal Achiever which shifted out under pressure. Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 2 Goal Achiever was issued with a severe reprimanded. Over the concluding stages shifted in becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of 2 Goal Achiever and as a result was unable to be ridden out.
11 Global Justice (F Henrique) -In the home straight had some difficulty in obtaining clear running until near the 250 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey W L Ho the rider of 10 Ronson (2nd placed horse) against 2 Goal Achiever (C L Cheung) being declared the winner by the Judge for alleging interference over the final 150 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey W L Ho and Mr. Pat Lee the trainer of 10 Ronson and Jockey C L Cheung and Mr. K M Chin the trainer of 2 Goal Achiever. It was established that near the 150 metres 10 Ronson was obliged to alter course outwards away from the heels of 2 Goal Achiever which shifted out under pressure. After considering all of the circumstances and taking into account the beaten margin of three quarters of a length, the Stewards could not be fully satisfied that had the interference not occurred, 10 Ronson would have beaten 2 Goal Achiever and as such dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1250 metres where Captain Brentford (W H Lao) had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Ocean Warrior (S Ladjadj), 3 Beat The Market (L Corrales), 7 Die Casting Alloy (K H Yu) and 9 Captain Brentford (W H Lao). Jockey S Ladjadj the rider 1 Ocean Warrior pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 1250 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 9 Captain Brentford which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey S Ladjadj’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of one racemeeting covering the meeting of Friday, 22 January 2021. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
