Race Report

RACE-3 THE MEMPHIS RATING 60-30 (CLASS 3&4) 1800 METRES (137)

1 Qian Gua (B Yamzon) -Jumped away awkwardly.
2 The Macallan (L Corrales) -Rider reported that his mount traveled well in the run however when the pace of the race quickened near the 800 metres 2 The Macallan was immediately under pressure to maintain its position. He added in the home straight, 2 The Macallan responded briefly under pressure before weakening over the final 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer J Lau was informed that he will be required to present 2 The Macallan to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 31 January 2021.
3 Colonel Mordaunt (S Ladjadj) -Jumped away awkwardly. Near the 300 metres brushed with 11 Numberone Mingxuan.
4 Big Alloy (K H Yu) -Near the 150 metres was eased away from the heels of 1 Qian Gua which was taken out by 8 Star Of Phoenix which had shifted out to improve when not fully clear. Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 8 Star Of Phoenix was severely reprimanded and was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground at all times. Rider reported that as the gelding had not been finishing its races off, he was instructed to have 4 Big Alloy traveling comfortably on the outside and in a more forward position. He added that leaving the 1100 metres when 7 Modena Best improved three wide he attempted to follow that horse as it was more favored runner and in his opinion would take him into the race and allow him the opportunity to make his run down the outside in the home straight. He further added 4 Big Alloy was unable to maintain its run, was under pressure from the 700 metres and did not respond to his riding in the home straight. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
5 Fantastic Friends (M Tanaka) -Had some difficulty in obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until near the 150 metres. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Bring Me Glory (S Nakano) -Leaving the 1700 metres was brushed by 1 Qian Gua which shifted in slightly.
7 Modena Best (W L Ho) -Made contact with the outside barrier partition on jumping away. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider reported that as he was caught racing three wide without cover on entering the back straight, he anticipated the speed slowing so he allowed 7 Modena Best to stride forward in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the running rail. He added however that as 11 Numberone Mingxuan maintained its position to his inside near the 800 metres, he was obliged to race wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
8 Star Of Phoenix (C L Cheung) -Near the 150 metres was obliged to shift to the outside of 10 Money Link to obtain clear running.
9 Dutch Shell (Y M Choi) -Approaching the winning post on the first occasion commenced to race ungenerously and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Big Alloy. Continued to race ungenerously for some distance thereafter.
10 Money Link (T Appie) -Was held up in the early stages of the home straight and leaving the 300 metres was obliged to shift to the outside of 7 Modena Best to obtain clear running.
11 Numberone Mingxuan (W H Lao) -Raced wide without cover until near the 1200 metres. Near the 300 metres brushed with 3 Colonel Mordaunt.
