Race Report

RACE-2 THE SANTO ANDRE RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1500 METRES (200)

1 Beauty Life (B Yamzon) -Jumped away awkwardly. Raced fiercely in the early stages.
2 Fortune Lady (Apprentice X C Liang) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Shengtong Treasure (L Corrales) -A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Star Of Venus (K H Yu) -Leaving the 1400 metres had to be steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room between 7 Partners' Fortune which shifted out slightly and 1 Beauty Life which shifted in slightly when laying in. For some distance thereafter raced ungenerously. Checked near the 750 metres.
6 Hostwin Shadow (Y M Choi) -Shortly after the start was bumped by 2 Fortune Lady which shifted in and then near the 1300 metres had to be eased when tightened for room between 2 Fortune Lady which was taken in slightly by 1 Beauty Life and 4 Star Of Venus which was taken out slightly by 7 Partners' Fortune. Checked near the 750 metres.
8 Breezy Artax (M Tanaka) -Was slow to begin. Checked near the 750 metres.
9 Victory Moment (W H Lao) -Near the 150 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of 7 Partners' Fortune which shifted in when not fully clear and then had to be shifted to the outside of 7 Partners' Fortune to obtain clear running. Jockey S Nakano the rider of 7 Partners' Fortune was issued a severe reprimand and was advised that he is to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and at the same time the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey W H Lao the rider of 9 Victory Moment (2nd placed horse) against 7 Partners' Fortune (S Nakano) being declared the winner for alleging interference near the 150 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey W H Lao in the presence of Mr. Y C Fung the trainer of 9 Victory Moment and Jockey S Nakano in the presence of Assistant Trainer Mr. I K Chang, representing Mr. Pat Lee the trainer of 7 Partners' Fortune. It was established that near the 150 metres 9 Victory Moment had to be steadied away from the heels of 7 Partners' Fortune which shifted in when not fully clear and then had to be shifted to the outside of 7 Partners' Fortune to obtain clear running. After taking into consideration the beaten margin, where the incident took place and how both runners were finishing their races off, the Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred that 9 Victory Moment would have beaten 7 Partners' Fortune and therefore upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the amended placings below:

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 750 metres where 4 Star Of Venus and 8 Breezy Artax were checked and 6 Hostwin Shadow which was following was checked in consequence. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Fortune Lady (Apprentice X C Liang) in the presence of Mr. M C Tam the Master of Apprentice X C Liang, 4 Star Of Venus (K H Yu) and 8 Breezy Artax (M Tanaka). Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 2 Fortune Lady pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 750 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 4 Star Of Venus which had to be checked and which was taken in on to 8 Breezy Artax which was also checked. 6 Hostwin Shadow which was following was checked in consequence. Apprentice X C Liang’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Saturday, 28 May and Saturday, 4 June 2022. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record, the degree of interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
