1 Hostwin Sunlight (K H Yu)- In the latter part of the home turn made contact with 3 Kingdom Qi Feng and had its hindquarters turned outwards.
4 For Community (W H Lao)- Was slow to begin (1L).
5 Happy Happy Happy (M Tanaka) -Passing the 200 metres was brushed wider by 2 Iu Cheong Master and approaching the winning post had to be checked to avoid the heels of 2 Iu Cheong Master which shifted out under pressure (see inquiry report).
6 Treasurelake Super (Apprentice Tesuri) - After passing the 200 metres was taken out off its course and inconvenienced by 2 Iu Cheong Master which shifted out.
10 Famous Anson (K F Choi) –Proved difficult to load, warning issued.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored.
The Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey M Tanaka the rider of 5 Happy Happy Happy the 3rd placed horse against 2 Iu Cheong Master (Apprentice X C Liang) being placed 2nd by the Judge for alleged interference in the home straight. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Tanaka and Mr. C F Chan the trainer of 5 Happy Happy Happy, Apprentice X C Liang and Mr. W Smith the trainer of 2 Iu Cheong Master. It was established that after passing the 200 metres 5 Happy Happy Happy was brushed wider by 2 Iu Cheong Master which shifted out and then approaching the winning post 5 Happy Happy Happy had to be checked to avoid the heels of 2 Iu Cheong Master which was shifting out under pressure. After considering all of the circumstances, bearing in mind the 1.5 lengths and the proximity to the winning post, the Stewards could not be satisfied that if the interference had not occurred, 5 Happy Happy Happy would have finished ahead of 2 Iu Cheong Master, therefore they dismissed the objection. Correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
At a later inquiry Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 2 Iu Cheong Master represented by Jockey C L Cheung, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i). In lieu of a two racemeeting suspension, Apprentice X C Liang will be fined 50% of his total earnings for the upcoming two racemeetings in which he rides. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Apprentice X C Liang’s guilty plea, his inexperience and all mitigating factors. . He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
The Stewards advised X C Liang that as this was the third occasion in recent weeks in which he had been severely reprimanded for riding in a similar manner and following the charge tonight, should he continue to ride in such a manner, his permit to ride in races will be reviewed
