RACE-1 THE CAUSEWAY BAY (TURF) (Div.1) RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (73)
1 Star Of Venus (K F Choi)- Was marginally slow to be begin and then shifted out slightly and made contact with the hindquarters of 3 Galaxy Warship. As a result lost ground (1L). Passing the 1000 metres was tightened for room, lost its rightful running and had to be checked. (see inquiry report). Near the 700 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of 3 Galaxy Warship and raced ungenerously for some distance. For some considerable distance approaching and passing the 400 metres was held up when unable to improve its position, before obtaining clear running inside the 300 metres.
3 Galaxy Warship (L Corrales)- On jumping brushed 5 Hostwin Shadow and was then bumped by 1 Star Of Venus and had its hindquarters turned.
4 Hostwin Sunlight (Apprentice Tesuri)- Raced three wide without cover.
5 Hostwin Shadow (C L Cheung) -Tightened for room and checked at the 1000 metres (see inquiry report).
9 Greninja (Apprentice X C Liang)- Passing the 900 metres when shifting in was checked over the heels of 1 Star Of Venus. Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 9 Greninja was spoken to advisedly. When shifting in, hit the running rail and became very unbalanced. Apprentice X C Liang who had hit his right foot against the running rail was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer after the race and was passed fit to continue riding.
11 Famous Jonathn (Y M Choi)- When questioned regarding the improved performance of 11 Famous Jonathn, Trainer S H Cheong stated that he was surprised at how well 11 Famous Jonathn performed tonight, however did note that the gelding had been working well. He added that the gelding had previously been quite difficult with regards to loading and its barrier manners, however behaved well tonight, and had drawn well and raced on turf for the first time, and attributed tonight’s performance to those factors.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident at the 1000 metres. It was established that 5 Hostwin Shadow (C L Cheung) had to be checked when tightened for room between 2 Famous Bonus (K H Yu) which shifted in slightly and 7 Snow Dragon (M Tanaka) which shifted out when hanging out.

Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Star Of Venus (K F Choi), 3 Galaxy Warship (L Corrales), 5 Hostwin Shadow (C L Cheung) and 2 Famous Bonus (K H Yu). Jockey L Corrales the rider of 3 Galaxy Warship was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that passing the 1000 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in 1 Star Of Venus (K F Choi) being tightened for room, losing its rightful running and having to be checked. In lieu of a two racemeeting suspension Jockey L Corrales will be fined 50% of his total earnings for the two upcoming racemeetings in which he rides. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account the degree of interference, the level of carelessness and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
