Stipendiary Stewards Inquiry - Jockey O Chavez

Saturday, 7th September 2019 – 1st Race Meeting

RACE-5 THE HONAN (DIV.2) RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1200 METRES (5)

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the incident near the 100 metres where 2 Kelvin's Choice had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 7 Rivalry (O Chavez) and 2 Kelvin's Choice (W L Ho). Jockey O Chavez pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 100 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of 2 Kelvin's Choice which had to be checked. Jockey O Chavez was suspended from riding in races for a period of one race meeting being Sunday, 29 September 2019. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the degree of interference, the racing manners of his horse at the point of the incident, and his riding record. He was advised of his right to appeal.
