RACE-1 THE THIRSK RATING 35-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1200 METRES (67)
1 Heng Feng Star (J B Hamel) -On jumping bumped 7 Best Jade Wan Zai. Near the 200 metres had a tendency to lay in under pressure and brushed the running rail. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 House Of Happiness (Y M Choi) -Jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped 8 Wonderful Power. Near the 500 metres was momentarily eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 9 Filial Piety. Near the 75 metres had to be checked.
4 Luen On Success (F Henrique) -Jumped away awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres.
6 Luen On Prodigy (O Chavez) -Was slow to begin. Leaving 800 metres raced fiercely for a short distance and was brushed by 2 House Of Happiness which shifted in slightly.
7 Best Jade Wan Zai (S Ladjadj) -Bumped by 1 Heng Feng Star on jumping away. Leaving the 400 metres forced wide on the track by 2 House Of Happiness which shifted out around the heels of 9 Filial Piety to improve and as a result made the home turn wide. Jockey Y M Choi the rider of 2 House Of Happiness was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
8 Wonderful Power (K H Yu) -Raced fiercely in the early stages.
9 Filial Piety (B Yamzon) -Raced three wide without cover throughout.
10 Ventures Elite (D Barros) -Raced four wide without cover throughout. Near the 75 metres had to be checked. The Stewards questioned Jockey D Barros with regards to his riding of 10 Ventures Elite and of particular concerns were the reasons he raced four wide throughout. Jockey D Barros stated that he was instructed from the wide draw to have the horse traveling where it was comfortable and in a position with cover if possible. He added 10 Ventures Elite jumped well and in the early stages he was expecting a fast tempo which would have potentially opened up the field and would have allowed him to come across and secure a position closer to the running rail. He further added that the tempo in the early stages was not as fast as he had anticipated and as a result he had runners improve to his inside down the back straight and was obliged to settle in a position four wide without cover outside of 9 Filial Piety. He stated leaving the 800 metres he tried to improve around 9 Filial Piety in an endeavor to obtain a position closer to the running rail, however that runner improved to his inside he had attempted to go forward, this resulted in 10 Ventures Elite being forced four wide without cover throughout the event. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation, however reminded him of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query in future.
11 Impeccable Genius (H Lam) -Jockey H Lam was questioned regarding his riding of 11 Impeccable Genius, in particular rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Jockey H Lam stated that his mount after jumping away failed to show its customary early speed and felt awkward in its action. He stated that as a result his mount settled at the tail of the field and he had to ride along to try and maintain its position. He further added that leaving the 200 metres he shifted to the inside of 6 Luen On Prodigy to obtain clear running and then applied the whip, however near the 100 metres had to steady his mount when awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring 1 Heng Feng Star. He added that as he still had concerns with his mount’s action, he eased it over the concluding stages. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation, however he was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mount in such a manner as to leave room for query, A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 75 metres where 2 House Of Happiness and 10 Ventures Elite had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 House Of Happiness (Y M Choi), 7 Best Jade Wan Zai (S Ladjadj), 8 Wonderful Power (K H Yu) and 10 Ventures Elite (D Barros).
Jockey K H Yu the rider of 8 Wonderful Power pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule of Racing 132 (i) in that near the 75 metres when using the whip he permitted 8 Wonderful Power to shift out when insufficiently clear of 10 Ventures Elite, contributing to both 10 Ventures Elite and 2 House Of Happiness being checked when tightened for room between 8 Wonderful Power and 7 Best Jade Wan Zai which also shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey K H Yu’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 4 January 2020. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey K H Yu’s guilty plea, his riding record, the degree of the interference and in addition that Jockey S Ladjadj the rider of 7 Best Jade Wan Zai had also contributed to this incident. He was informed of his Right of Appeal.
