RACE-2 THE ILOILO (TURF) (Div.1) RATING 50-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (169)

1 Breeze 'N' Luna (Apprentice Tesuri) - Struck the side of the barrier stall on jumping and became very unbalanced. Then shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of 8 Hostwin Apollo and was turned.
2 Star Of Venus (L Corrales) -Had a tendency to lay out rounding the turn into the back straight. Approaching the 400 metres was brushed by 1 Breeze 'N' Luna. Passing the 400 metres became very unbalanced and was forced out off its course (see inquiry). After passing the 300 metres was bumped outwards by 1 Breeze 'N' Luna which shifted out. Apprentice Tesuri was issued a reprimand. Again approaching the winning post was brushed by 1 Breeze 'N' Luna, which shifted out again under pressure. Jockey L Corrales was spoken to advisedly regarding the use of his whip when racing tight with 1 Breeze 'N' Luna over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
3 Handsome Alloy (Apprentice A Liu) - Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run from the entrance to the straight until approaching the 200 metres.
4 King Of Glamour (C L Cheung) - Rider explained that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action and on today’s track conditions. For this reason he eased it down over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Charity Gold (W H Lao) - Was slow to begin (1L). Raced wide without cover. Rider W H Lao explained when questioned that he was instructed to settle in a mid field position, however his mount pulled hard and had a tendency to lay out in the back straight. For this reason he allowed it to stride and take up a more forward position than anticipated.
8 Hostwin Apollo (M Tanaka) - For a short distance approaching the 400 metres was held up when unable to improve its position.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident passing the 400 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Star Of Venus (L Corrales) and 1 Breeze 'N' Luna (Apprentice Tesuri) and Trainer K M Chin the Master of Apprentice Tesuri. Apprentice Tesuri the rider of 1 Breeze 'N' Luna pleaded guilty to charge of reckless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that after initially shifting out in an attempt to improve, and making contact with 2 Star Of Venus, then he deliberately rode his mount out where there was no room, resulting in 1 Breeze 'N' Luna making heavy contact with 2 Star Of Venus which became very unbalanced and was forced out off its course. Apprentice Tesuri’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 race meetings covering the meetings of Friday, 31 March and Saturday, 1 April 2023. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Apprentice Tesuri’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record, it was his first suspension, the level of interference and all mitigation factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Stewards questioned several riders regarding the tactics adopted in this race:
Jockey K F Choi the rider of 6 Aeras, the winner explained when questioned that the gelding is a natural leader and has a tendency to over race in its races. He said that for this reason, he allowed it to stride forward and let it race where it was comfortable. He said that although he was running quick sectionals, 6 Aeras was traveling well within itself and he was unaware it had obtained a large lead over the remainder of the field. Trainer Y C Fung confirmed that he had instructed Jockey K F Choi to go forward and commented on the racing manners of 6 Aeras, however he was surprised that it did obtain such a big lead.
Jockey W H Lao the rider of 7 Charity Gold the stable mate 6 Aeras (winner), explained that he settled at the rear of the field however his mount pulled very hard and laid out and for this reason he allowed it to race wide in the back straight whilst allowing it to then stride forward.
Apprentice A Liu the rider of 3 Handsome Alloy which settled in 2nd position explained that he was aware that 6 Aeras had obtain a large lead however he was of the opinion that it was running fast sectionals and anticipated that it might tire and come back to the rest of the field. He said for this reason, he was content not to attempt to ride his mount along to make up ground in the back straight and instead allowed it to travel at a pace well within itself. He added that he had some difficulty obtaining a run near the 300 metres and his mount ran on fairly to the line.
