Stipendiary Stewards Inquiry - Jockey D Barros

Sunday, 10th November 2019 – 12th Race Meeting

RACE-3 THE RIPON RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1200 METRES (69)

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 50 metres where 9 To's Family was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 9 To's Family (H Lam), 5 Royal Garden (Apprentice C L Cheung) and 4 Bring Me Speed (D Barros). Jockey D Barros pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 50 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 5 Royal Garden which was taken in onto 9 To's Family which had to be checked. Jockey D Barros’ license to ride in races was suspended for 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday, 10 January and Sunday, 12 January 2020. In arriving at the decision, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and in particular this is his first meeting back from a previous suspension and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
