RACE-2 THE COIMBATORE RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (207)

2 Windsor Arch (A Calder) –Jockey A Calder was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 2 Windsor Arch. He explained that he had been instructed to stay close to the rail and find a path through the inside and it was his opinion that because of the heavy track most runners would race wide in straight in search of better ground. He stated that in the back straight his mount got its head up and did not travel well and near the 450 metres he had to steady off heels before improving to the outside of 10 Smart Ebony when 8 Explosive Blast shifted out which afforded him clear running at that stage. He added that on straightening he was unable to improve when disappointed for a run and he was too far up inside the heels of 3 Great River which meant he would have to concede ground to then come to the outside to improve his position. He further added that near the 300 metres he angled out however 6 Gold And Silver shifted ground ahead of him preventing him from attempting a run between that gelding and 7 Gem Lucky Star. For this reason he angled back to the inside of 7 Gem Lucky Star where a run presented after passing the 200 metres and he then commenced to place 2 Windsor Arch under pressure, however it was slow to respond to his riding and was racing intractably with its head in the air. He further added that near the 100 metres, became very unbalanced after being brushed by 3 Great River which shifted out. The Stewards noted Jockey A Calder’s comments. Trainer K C Chong confirmed the instructions and added that he was satisfied with the ride on the gelding. He explained that 2 Windsor Arch is erratic at trackwork due to having a sensitive mouth and this was displayed through its racing manners today. He added that 2 Windsor Arch appeared to have pulled up well and he would make a decision in the coming days as to where he would place the gelding next and highlighted that it would be better suited over 1700 metres. He further added he did not support 2 Windsor Arch or the stable mate, the eventually winner 4 Machmaster, however he thought both runners had reasonable chances in today’s event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Great River (L Salles) -Disappointing performance. Rider reported that the gelding failed to handle today’s track condition and did not let down when tested. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis.
4 Machmaster (L Corrales) –Was marginally slow to begin.
6 Gold And Silver (O Doleuze) –Raced three wide without cover.
9 Lucky And Strong (C Perkins) –Shortly after the start raced in restricted room for a short distance between 5 Simple Mind and 8 Explosive Blast.
10 Smart Ebony (W H Lao) –Raced keenly through the middle stages. Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run approaching and passing the 300 metres.
11 Accelera (R Curatolo) –Shortly after the start was inconvenienced by 2 Windsor Arch which shifted out. Trainer K C Wong was severely reprimanded for adding extra packing to the rider’s saddled resulting in Jockey R Curatolo weighing in in excess of 1lb over that in which he weighed out.
