Race Report

RACE-6 THE CHESTERFIELD RATING 45-0 (CLASS 4&5) 1600 METRES (96)

1 Turquoise Heart (A Calder) –Raced wide without cover throughout.
2 Charity Group (R Maia) –Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the outside barrier partition.
3 Road To Victory (K K Lai) –Raced wide until the 600 metres where it was allowed to stride forward and take up a position outside of the leader.
4 Shame On You (A Aucharuz) –Near the 700 metres was buffeted between 1 Turquoise Heart and 6 Paulson for a short distance.
5 Honest Boy (H Lam) – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer J Lau was informed that 5 Honest Boy not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
6 Paulson (W L Ho) –Was resaddled behind the barriers.
8 Fortune Smiles (B Yamzon) – Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with the inside barrier partition. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion was bumped by 4 Shame On You which shifted in. Rider reported that his mount travelled well until the 800 metres however failed to improve despite his urgings and was a beaten horse at the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Rivers Elite (K W Leong) - Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 10 Rivers Elite will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
11 Cargo Money (R Curatolo) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Trainer K H Leong was informed that 11 Cargo Money will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
12 River Dream (K H Yu) –The Stewards questioned Trainer S H Cheong with regards to the apparent improved performance of 12 River Dream. Trainer S H Cheong explained that at its most recent starts the gelding was not comfortable on the yielding to soft track and was disappointing on those occasions. He added that the gelding trialed well on the 6th of December 2016, and as a result of this he was confident leading into today’s race. He further added that 12 River Dream was able to lead on its own today and in his opinion this contributed to the gelding’s improved performance. The Stewards noted his explanation.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The “Enquiry” sign was semaphored following the running of the race to afford the Stewards the opportunity to view the official patrol film of the start to establish whether 5 Honest Boy, 10 Rivers Elite and 11 Cargo Money had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected, 5 Honest Boy, 10 Rivers Elite and 11 Cargo Money all stood flat footed and lost significant ground. The Stewards were satisfied that 5 Honest Boy 5, 10 Rivers Elite and 11 Cargo Money had all been afforded a fair start and as such Correct Weight was declared.
