Race Report

RACE-2 THE BOLTON RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1050 METRES (122)

3 Great China (B Yamzon) –Was slow to begin. Near the 600 metres was steadied when tightened between 6 Gem Fighter which after laying in, brushed the running rail and shifted out slightly, and 4 Sacred Warrior which was inclined to lay in. In all circumstances, the Stewards took no further action.
5 I Told You So (A Aucharuz) –Acting on veterinary advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of 5 I Told You So which was found to be lame in the right foreleg at 2:35pm.
9 Wine Buddies (R Curatolo) –Raced wide without cover throughout. The Stewards questioned Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 9 Wine Buddies in regard to the reasons he raced extremely wide without cover and also his riding from entering the home and until leaving the 200 metres. Jockey R Curatolo stated that he was instructed to go forward and follow the leader and added that he rode his mount forward in the early stages, however due to the quick tempo set by 1 Baby Horse, his mount travelled off the bit. He stated that leaving the 600 metres he attempted to shift in and obtain a position closer to the running rail, however 4 Sacred Warrior was positioned to his inside and as he was never sufficiently clear to cross that runner, he was forced to race wide without cover. He stated that rounding the home turn his mount did not feel comfortable in its action and on entering the home straight, he attempted to change his mount’s lead leg on a number of occasions. He explained that leaving the 200 metres as his mount had still not changed its lead leg, he then placed the gelding under full pressure, however 9 Wine Buddies did not respond to his riding and did not finish off the race as expected. Trainer Y C Fung confirmed the instructions issued to Jockey R Curatolo and after viewing all the available footage was satisfied with the ride. Mr. Fung further stated that 9 Wine Buddies may not have appreciated the quick back up from its run on the 6th of January 2017. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards noted both their explanations, however Jockey R Curatolo was advised that at all times, he is to ensure that he rides his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
