Race Report

RACE-1 THE LEVERKUSEN RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1510 METRES (153)

1 Rosary Diamond (H Lam) –Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider dropped his whip near to the 200 metres. Jockey H Lam was issued a severe reprimand.
3 Smart Ebony (W L Ho) –Rider reported that his mount never travelled at any stage of the race and in his opinion may not have appreciated racing in the kickback. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Best Double (A Calder) –Jumped awkwardly.
6 St Pedder (W Smith) – Knuckled on jumping away. Leaving the 1300 metres was crowded for room and buffeted between 1 Rosary Diamond and 3 Smart Ebony which was taken out by 7 Safe Gold Baby which hung out. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were unable to attribute blame to anyone rider and no further action was taken.
7 Safe Gold Baby (Y M Choi) – Was slow to begin. Hung out leaving the 1300 metres. The Stewards questioned Jockey Y M Choi with regards to his riding, in particular his vigour from the 600 metres until the 400 metres. Jockey Choi explained that he was instructed to have his mount in a handy position if possible and for him to comply with his instructions he had to make use of the gelding in the early stages to obtain a handy position. He added that leaving the 600 metres his mount was not travelling comfortably and had commenced to weaken, therefore he elected to try and keep his mount balanced until entering the home straight, where he then placed 7 Safe Gold Baby under pressure, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation, however, Jockey Y M Choi was issued with a severe reprimand for his lack of vigour and was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to display far more vigour than he did on this occasion and was further advised that he is to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Delight Consul (K K Lai) –Reared on jumping away. Raced wide without cover throughout.
