Race Report

RACE-4 THE KEMPTON RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1510 METRES (136)

1 Same Beauty (M Wepner) -Rider reported that near the 600 metres he was struck in the face by a clod.
5 Hostwin Meraki (K Leung) -Jumped awkwardly. Near the 1300 metres had to be checked. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Eclair Sunshine (O Chavez) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer K S Wong was informed that a warning was issued against 8 Eclair Sunshine for its barrier manners. Rounding the home turn bumped with 5 Hostwin Meraki when attempting to obtain clear running to the outside of 9 Great Wall. Rider reported that after losing considerable ground at the start, he settled further back than anticipated. He added his mount travelled well and was able to improve into the race, however near the 300 metres when his mount changed lead legs, the gelding felt awkward in its action and raced flat. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he will be required to present 8 Eclair Sunshine to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 26 January 2019.
9 Great Wall (K K Lai) - Jumped awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident nearing the 1300 metres where 5 Hostwin Meraki (K Leung) had to be checked. Evidence was taken from Jockeys W Smith the rider of 2 Duke Da Vega, W L Ho the rider of 7 Mujaan and K Leung the rider of 5 Hostwin Meraki. It was established that near the 1300 metres 5 Hostwin Meraki was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied between 2 Duke Da Vega which shifted out and 7 Mujaan which shifted in. 5 Hostwin Meraki when being steadied by its rider then raced ungenerously for a short distance and had to be checked off the heels of 7 Mujaan. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards could not portion blame to either Jockeys W Smith or W L Ho and took no further action other than to advise all riders to exercise more care and to ensure they give all their fellow riders the necessary racing room where possible.
