Race Report

RACE-4 THE CHANGSHA (SAND) RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1350 METRES (161)

1 Harvest Year (Apprentice X C Liang) - Shortly after the start, shifted in slightly, brushed 4 Fantastic Fortune and became slightly unbalanced. Raced 4 wide without cover and laid out for some distance passing the 400 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that 1 Harvest Year which had been beaten in excess of 33 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
2 Armed (B Yamzon) - Commenced awkwardly. Near the 1300 metres, became unbalanced when racing tight between 4 Fantastic Fortune and 7 Treasurelake Super. At the 300 metres shifted in slightly and brushed 7 Treasurelake Super.
3 Golden Unbeatable (S H Huang) - Struck the side of the barrier stalls on jumping.
4 Fantastic Fortune (M Tanaka) - Around the 1300 metres, was crowded between 1 Harvest Year and 2 Armed for short distance. Performed below market expectations. Rider reported that he was instructed to try to lead and also to avoid the kickback. He said his mount did not travel comfortably through the race and was a beaten horse in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Treasurelakebuddy (L Corrales) - Approaching the 200 metres, had to change course when disappointed for a run to the inside of 3 Golden Unbeatable.
7 Treasurelake Super (I Poullis) - Rider explained when questioned that he had been instructed to lead in line with the gelding’s usual racing pattern. He said that he raced off the fence because he had a runner back to his inside, and also because he was of the opinion that the surface was better off the rail. He said his mount travelled comfortably after obtaining the lead however was one-paced, and was beaten near the 500 metres and did not respond to his riding in the straight. He said in his opinion it may be better suited for shorter distance and in a lower rating race.
