Race Report

RACE-3 THE REEFTON RATING 50-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (195)

1 Fortune Paradise (Apprentice A Liu) - Brushed the side of the barrier stall on jumping away and was then bumped by 5 Captain Brentford.
2 Racing Brothers (L Corrales) - Brushed the side of the barrier stall when the gates were released, unbalancing its rider. Raced wide without cover. Approaching the 100 metres shifted in slightly when struck with the whip and brushed the hindquarters of 6 Carry On For Ages, as a result the rider had to momentarily stop riding and straighten his mount. Jockey L Corrales explained when questioned that he had been instructed to go forward, or if that was not possible, to settle where comfortable, but avoid the kickback. He said his mount had drawn a wide alley and was unable to lead, and for this reason he allowed it to travel where it was comfortable, albeit in a three wide position. He added 2 Racing Brothers was traveling very well within itself throughout the event and kicked at the 400 metres, at which point he thought that it was a genuine chance. He said that at the 200 metres, the gelding made an unusual respiratory noise and became unbalanced, and commenced to give ground and coughed on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer W L Ho was informed that he would be required to present 2 Racing Brothers to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination and endoscopic examination on Saturday, 15 April 2023.
