Race Report

RACE-2 THE NORFOLK RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1200 METRES (219)

1 Bolson (S Nakano) - Approaching the 200 metres was slightly inconvenienced and had to change course to the inside of 4 Yings Fans which shifted out. Apprentice A Liu was spoken to advisedly. After passing the 100 metres, shifted in and was then taken out marginally by 5 Wealthyness which shifted out abruptly before being corrected by its rider. As a result had to be steadied from heels of 7 Star Akia.
5 Wealthyness (L Corrales) - Resaddled behind barriers. Had a tendency to hang out for the majority. Trainer C W Choi was informed that a warning was placed against the gelding for its racing manners. After entering the home straight, was steadied when placed in restricted room between 7 Star Akia and 6 Desi Master, both of which shifted ground, and as a result changed course to obtain a clear run.
6 Desi Master (C Perkins) - Raced three wide without cover.
7 Star Akia (I Poullis) - Shifted out when under pressure from approaching the 200 metres until passing the 100 metres.
9 Joyful Commander (S H Huang) - After passing the 800 metres, had to be steadied when racing close to heels.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 5 Wealthyness (4th placed horse) against 7 Star Akia (I Poullis) being declared 3rd place getter for alleged interference from the 300 metres to the 250 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey L Corrales and Mr. C W Choi the trainer of 5 Wealthyness and Jockey I Poullis and Mr. W K Lam the trainer of 7 Star Akia. It was established that after entering the home straight, 5 Wealthyness was steadied when placed in restricted room between 7 Star Akia and 6 Desi Master, both of which shifted ground. As Stewards believed that there were contributing factors to this incident, the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared on the Judge’s placings.
