Race Report
RACE-5 THE CHESTERFIELD RATING 45-0 MAIDEN 1500 METRES (342)

1 Mulan Go (T Appie) -Jumped away awkwardly. The Stewards questioned Jockey T Appie with regards to the tactics adopted on 1 Mulan Go, in particular from the 800 metres to the 400 metres where 2 Ocean Warrior was able to establish a significant lead. Jockey T Appie stated that it was his plan to either lead or sit 2nd if circumstances permitted and in the early stages when 2 Ocean Warrior had established the lead, he was able to obtain a position on the running rail behind that runner leaving the 1200 metres. He added from the 800 metres when 2 Ocean Warrior had established a significant lead, he was of the opinion that that runner was setting a fast tempo and would eventually come back to the field and as his filly is a small horse and given she had to carry top weight of 130lbs in today’s race, he was reluctant to place his mount under pressure leaving the 800 metres. He further added that from the 600 metres he asked 1 Mulan Go to improve and again leaving the 500 metres, however the filly did not quicken as expected and when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to run on and was inclined to hang out. Whilst the Stewards noted his explanations, they advised him that in their opinion he should have shown more urgency to reduce the margin between his mount and 2 Ocean Warrior sooner than he did on this occasion. However, having taking all factors into consideration, the Stewards were satisfied that the tactics adopted on this occasion were not unreasonable under the circumstances and took no further action. Nevertheless Jockey T Appie was reminded of his obligations to always ride his mounts to the circumstances of each race and in a manner which leaves no room for query.
3 Goal Achiever (L Corrales) -The Stewards questioned Jockey L Corrales with regards to the tactics adopted on 3 Goal Achiever, in particular from the 800 metres to the 400 metres where 2 Ocean Warrior was able to establish a significant lead. Jockey L Corrales stated that he had ridden 3 Goal Achiever at its most recent start where it was placed 2nd over the same track and distance. He added leaving the 800 metres when 2 Ocean Warrior had established a significant lead, he was of the opinion 2 Ocean Warrior was setting a fast tempo and would eventually come back to the field. He further added as result of this, he did not consider placing his mount under pressure at that point of the race as in his opinion it would have been detrimental to the chances of 3 Goal Achiever, as such he elected to keep his mount travelling comfortably to the outside of 1 Mulan Go which he expected would take him into the race. He stated leaving the 500 metres when 4 Master Of Mars improved to his inside, he began to place 3 Goal Achiever under pressure to improve its position and in the home straight 3 Goal Achiever responded to his riding and finished the race off well, however was surprised that 2 Ocean Warrior maintained its margin. The Stewards noted his explanations.
5 Rayson Warrior (W L Ho) -Was marginally slow to begin. Near the 1400 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Master Of Mars.
6 Turquoise Square (M Tanaka) -Jumped away awkwardly.
7 Mr Half Lamma (S Ladjadj) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
