Race Report

RACE-5 THE NATAL (DIV 2) RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1050 METRES (252)
The running distance has been amended from 1200M/Turf to 1050M/Sand.

2 Dr Diamond (J B Hamel) -Approaching the 400 metres was inclined to lay out.
3 Imperial Eagle (F Henrique) -Leaving the 800 metres was inclined to lay in. Leaving the 300 metres continued to lay in for a short distance and had to be corrected by its rider. Near the 200 metre shifted out and bumped with 6 Thar which at the same time shifted in.
5 Autumn Cloud (T Appie) -Turned its head in the barriers as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer K S Wong was informed that a warning had been placed against 5 Autumn Cloud for its barrier manners. Rider reported in the early stages in his opinion his mount resented racing in the kick back so elected to position his mount wider on the track so as to avoid the kick back.
6 Thar (S Nakano) -Near the 200 metres shifted in and bumped which 3 Imperial Eagle which at the same time shifted out.
7 You And You Alone (Y M Choi) -Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
8 Captain Brentford (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly. Rider reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and was unbalanced. He further added in his opinion in future 8 Captain Brentford would be suited over races of a longer distance and on the turf track, A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey S Nakano the rider 6 Thar (2nd placed getter) against 3 Imperial Eagle (F Henrique) being declared the winner by the Judge alleging interference near the 200 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey S Nakano in the presence of Mr. K S Wong the trainer of 6 Thar and Jockey F Henrique in the presence of Mr. G Allendorf the trainer of 3 Imperial Eagle. After considering all of the evidence, it was established that at the 200 metres 3 Imperial Eagle and 6 Thar bumped when both horses were inclined to shift ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was a contributing shift from both horses, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

At a subsequent inquiry the Stewards advised both Jockeys S Nakano (6 Thar) and F Henrique (3 Imperial Eagle )to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
