RACE-3 THE MUSSELBURGH RATING MAIDEN () 1350 METRES (87)
2 Easy Victory (L Corrales) – Shifted out on jumping away and made contact with 1 Macau Spring.
4 Friends Galore (A Calder) – Over raced in the early stages. Was eased out from the race on straightening and found to have suffered a bleeding attack.
5 River Colour (K W Leong) –Prior to Race 1, connections advised that the rider would be instructed to attempt to lead from the inside barrier. Settled in the lead.
6 Zirconium Alloy (H Lam) –Raced very wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Best Double (B Yamzon) –Prior to the race, Trainer M C Tam would be instructing the rider to attempt to obtain cover. Settled mid field.
8 River Treasure (J Cordero) –The start was slightly delayed when the bridle and pacifier of 8 River Treasure which had became dislodged on arrival at the barriers and had to be refitted. Turning into the back straight got its head up when racing ungenerously. Raced very wide without cover.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to “Correct Weight”, the connections of 2 Easy Money (L Corrales),5th placedgetter viewed the Stewards patrol film before lodging an objection against 10 One From Many (W L Ho) the 2nd placedgetter for alleged interference in the straight. It was established that after passing the 200 metres 10 One From Many shifted in and 1 Macau Spring (W L Ho) shifted out resulting in 2 Easy Victory being tightened for room between those two runners and having to be checked. However considering the beaten margin of three and a half lengths and taking into account the manner in which both horses finished off the event, the Stewards were not satisfied that a reversal of placing was warranted. The objection was dismissed.
On jumping away 10 One From Many (W H Lao), 4 Friends Galore (A Calder) and 8 River Treasure (J Cordero) were all hampered when tightened for room between 3 Jade Elite (D Chong) which shifted in and 9 My Lovely Faye (Apprentice Y M Choi) which shifted out. As a result 4 Friends Galore and 8 River Treasure lost some ground.
Jockey W H Lao pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding for permitting his mount to shift in at the 250 metres when insufficiently clear of 3 Jade Elite (D Chong) resulting in that gelding being checked. Jockey W H Lao’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 racemeetings covering the meetings of 3rd, 8th and 15th January 2016. The Stewards took into account his poor recent record, his guilty plea, the severity of the interference and a high degree of carelessness. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
Trainer M C Tam was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 7 Best Double (B Yamzon), he stated that as the gelding was stepping up in distance to the 1350 metres, he had planned to ride the gelding with cover to allow it to relax and finish off the event because in the past when racing over shorter distances it over raced and was unable to finish its races strongly. Trainer M C Tam added that he advised connections that 7 Best Double had a chance tonight bearing in mind that it sometimes shows a tendency to lay out during trackwork. He further added that he will see how 7 Best Double before deciding when it will race again. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
Jockey B Yamzon the rider of 7 Best Double pleaded guilty to a charge under MJC Rule 132 (iii) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars being that from the 600 metres until the 300 metres, he failed to place his mount under pressure to attempt to improve his position and thereby failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey B Yamzon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 racemeetings covering the meetings of 3rd, 8th, 15th, 16th, 23rd, 29th and 30th January 2016. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his prior record under this rule, his guilty plea and the mitigating circumstances. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
