Race Report

RACE-1 THE SHEK O RATING 55-0 (SPECIAL) 1000 METRES (290)

1 Show Smart (W Smith) – Was replated on arrival at the barriers. Was then examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.
2 Four Season Health (W H Lao) –Was marginally slow to begin and was then inconvenienced by 7 Chilli Boy which was taken out by 6 Golden Kalbar. As a result lost ground.
4 Wan Shi Sheng Yi (L Salles) –On jumping away shifted in and made contact with 1 Show Smart. The Stewards questioned Jockey L Salles regarding the tactics he adopted on 4 Wan Shi Sheng. He explained that he had been instructed to lead if there was no pace, however after his mount began well, 1 Show Smart then improved to his inside and rather than engage in a battle for the lead, he attempted to restrain his mount and sit back off 1 Show Smart. Jockey L Salles was shown the video footage and was notified that he would be expected to make a genuine attempt to restrain his mount when in similar circumstances in future and leave no room for query. Furthermore, he was reminded that due to the extremely heavy track conditions today he must not have other runners unnecessarily tight inside him and he must ride to suit the conditions.
6 Golden Kalbar (R Curatolo) –Jumped away awkwardly. Raced excessively wide without cover. When questioned, Jockey R Curatolo explained that he was content to race wide without cover as he was of the belief that the going was superior off the fence. On viewing the film, Jockey R Curatolo agreed that he was unnecessarily wide and it would have been more advantageous for him to have obtained a position closer to the rail.
9 Accelera (K W Leong) –Had a tendency to lay out rounding the turn and in the straight.
