Race Report

RACE-5 THE KOBE (TURF) RATING 70-40 (CLASS 2&3) 1700 METRES (348)

4 Happy Fish (C F Wong) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Wyoming (L Corrales) –Passing the 100 metres improved up onto the heels of 3 Northern Legend and was shifted inwards. Thereafter was steadied when disappointed for a run between 3 Northern Legend which shifted in and 2 King Creole which shifted out.
7 Chromium Alloy (H Lam) –Trainer C F Chan informed the Stewards that the rider will be instructed to endeavour to settled the gelding further back today due to the wide alley. Was restrained at the start, crossed behind the field to take up a position one off the rail at the rear of the field. Laid out in the straight under pressure resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount approaching the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Flying Team (B Yamzon) –Raced three wide without cover.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
An inquiry was opened into the tactics adopted on 4 Happy Fish today. Evidence was taken from Trainer Pat Lee who informed the Stewards that he had instructed Jockey C F Wong to lead on the horse as it was its usual racing pattern. Evidence was taken from Jockey C F Wong and after viewing the patrol films, as well as previous runs of 4 Happy Fish, the Stewards found him guilty of a charge under the provisions of MJC Rule 132 (iii) for failing to ride 4 Happy Fish to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars being that after establishing the leading position, he continually urged his mount along from the 1400 metres to until after passing the 600 metres and by doing so established a large lead over the rest of the field when in the opinion of the Stewards he should have restrained his mount which would have afforded it respite mid race, thereby allowing it the opportunity to be able to finish off the event. By failing to take these measures, he failed to ride his mount to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey C F Wong’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of ten racemeetings to commence on Sunday, 7th August 2016 and to encompass the four racemeetings of the new Racing Season (dates to be confirmed in due course). In arriving at the penalty the Stewards took into account his record, that he had been issued prior warnings for similar rides, the seriousness of the offence. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
In all the circumstances, no action was taken against Trainer Pat Lee.
