Race Report

RACE-2 THE NAGASAKI (SAND) RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1350 METRES (345)

1 Grateful Favors (L Salles) –Jumped away awkwardly. Disappointing performance from the short price favorite. Rider was unable to offer any explanation, however expressed his disappointment in today’s performance. A post race swab was taken from the gelding for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Ho was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 25th July 2016.
3 Modigmaster (C F Chan) –Was slow to begin and was then bumped by 2 Northern Lightning which shifted in. Disappointing performance. Rider reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Speed Of King (L Corrales) –Raced three wide without cover throughout.
5 Gem Fighter (K K Lai) –The Stewards questioned Jockey K K Lai regarding his riding on that gelding and in particular as to why he appear to restrain his mount to the rear of the field after passing the 1000 metres. He explained that he had been instructed to ride 5 Gem Fighter where it was comfortable and highlighted that it normally races in a mid to rear position. He said that he was of the belief that his mount hung out in its races and for his reason he elected to stay on the fence with cover. He added that with the speed in today’s event and with 5 Gem Fighter dropping back in distance from 1600 metres to 1350 metres he did not wish to place his mount under necessary pressure during the early stages to be in a more forward position as it may have been detrimental to its chances of finishing the race off strongly. Jockey K K Lai further added that he commenced to place his mount under pressure at the 800 metres and it was always under hard hands and heels riding from that point and ran on fairly in the straight. Jockey K K Lai’s comments were noted.
8 Captain Genuki (H Lam) –Raced very keenly in the back straight.
