Race Report

RACE-1 THE KWANGSI RATING 55-0 (CLASS 4,5&6) 1200 METRES (31)

2 Galaxy Supreme (L Salles) –Rider reported that his mount failed to handle today’s track conditions. A swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Power Battery (A Aucharuz) –Was inclined to over race in the middle stages.
4 Wealthy Treasure (L Corrales) –Dislodged rider on the way to the barriers. Jockey L Corrales who suffered a harmless fall, was inspected by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to continue riding. 4 Wealthy Treasure was inspected behind the barriers and passed fit to start. Trainer S Chow was informed that 4 Wealthy Treasure will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has passed an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
Raced greenly and was steadied at the 700 metres. As a result 5 Go Go Partners and 6 Luen On Treasure which were following were inconvenienced and had to be steadied.
5 Go Go Partners (W L Ho) –At the 700 metres was steadied when inconvenienced. Checked near the 350 metres.
6 Luen On Treasure (A Calder) –Resaddled behind the barriers. At the 700 metres was steadied when inconvenienced.
7 Lucky Station (W H Lao) –Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount never traveled comfortably and in his opinion failed to handle the track conditions today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
8 Californiatreasure (K W Leong) –Near the 150 metres shifted in under pressure and bumped 2 Galaxy Supreme.
11 Who's My Fan (C Perkins) – Trainer Y C Fung was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of 11 Who's My Fan. Trainer Y C Fung was at a loss to explain the improved performance other than the addition of blinkers for the first time may have contributed to the improved performance.
12 River Dream (K H Yu) –Jumped awkwardly. Rider reported that after beginning awkwardly, he had to make significant use of his mount in the early stages to maintain a position closer to the field and in his opinion this had contributed to the gelding failing to run on in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey K W Leong the rider of 8 Californiatreasure was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 350 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 5 Go Go Partners (W L Ho) which was taken out and tightened for room between 8 Californiatreasure and 3 Power Battery (A Aucharuz) and had to be checked. Jockey K W Leong’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings to cover the meetings of 29th October and 4th November 2016. In accessing penalty the Stewards took into account the degree of the interference, the slight shift inwards from 3 Power Battery at the time of the incident and Jockey Leong’s good riding record. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
