Race Report

RACE-2 THE DATONG RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1510 METRES (178)

2 Nata Way (B Yamzon) –Jumped awkwardly.
3 Power Battery (K H Yu) – Raced wide without cover from the 600 metres.
4 Vancouver Jaguar (R Maia) –Near the 100 metres was inclined to shift in marginally and became unbalanced when bumped heavily by 1 Off The Bench which shifted out under pressure. Jockey L Corrales the rider of 1 Off The Bench was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in future. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, in particular the reasons 4 Vancouver Jaguar leading in tonight’s race, Jockey R Maia explained that he was issued no specific instructions other than to get a good jump and have the gelding travelling where it was comfortable. He added in contrast to its previous start, the gelding began well in tonight’s race and to cross the runners to his inside, he allowed 4 Vancouver Jaguar to stride forward and obtain the lead position. The Stewards accepted his explanation.
5 Chinese Dream (A Calder) –Raced wide without cover until near the 1000 metres, when it improved to a position outside of the leader.
6 Road To Victory (C Perkins) –Was slow to begin.
7 Vigorous Momentum (W Smith) –Jumped awkwardly. Rounding the home turn was held up and unable to improve.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The “Enquiry “ sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards to view the official patrol film of the final 100 metres to ascertain whether there was sufficient grounds for the Stewards to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of 4 Vancouver Jaguar, the 3rd placegetter against 1 Off the Bench being declared the winner by the Judge. After viewing the official patrol film it was established that leaving the 100 metres 4 Vancouver Jaguar which was shifting in slightly was bumped heavily by 1 Off the Bench which shifted out under pressure resulting in 4 Vancouver Jaguar becoming unbalanced for a short distance. After considering all of the circumstances and having taken into account the beaten margin, the Stewards were of the opinion that there were insufficient grounds for an objection and as such correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
