RACE-5 THE LISMORE RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1050 METRES (357)

2 Mackinac Island (A Calder) -Crowded for room approximately the 380 metres.
4 Gracywife (M Cangas) - Approximately the 380 metres checked. Stewards inquiry.
5 So Sweet (R Curatolo) -Jockey R Curatolo was reprimanded for allowing his mount to race unnecessarily wide whilst negotiating the home turn and in the home straight. When questioned regarding the instructions given to Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 5 So Sweet, Trainer M C Tam explained that he had instructed Jockey R Curatolo that he expected the horse to be back in the field today considering that it is back in distance from 1500 metres at its previous start and to make his run on the outside of the field, however he did not expect him to race as wide as he did. He further added that he only elected to nominate 5 So Sweet due to the small field size. The Stewards noted his explanation but informed Trainer M C Tam when formulating instructions he is to be more specific with his requirements so as to leave no room for misinterpretation.
6 Show Smart (W Smith) -Approximately the 380 metres shifted in with 4 Gracywife having to check.
7 Gem Fighter (K K Lai) - Rider reported that his saddled slipped back during the race, placing him at a disadvantage.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident at approximately the 380 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys M Cangas the rider of 4 Gracywife, A Calder the rider of 2 Mackinac Island and W Smith the rider of 6 Show Smart.
Jockey W Smith the rider of 6 Show Smart pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approximately the 380 metres, he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear, obliging 4 Gracywife to check and be taken inwards crowding 2 Mackinac Island. Jockey W Smith’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 racemeeting and in addition he was issued a fine of HK$5,000. The Stewards acceded to Jockey W Smith’s request to substitute a fine of HK$5,800 in lieu of the 1 racemeeting suspension. In total he was fined the sum of HK$10,800. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his record and the degree of the interference. Jockey Smith was advised of his Right of Appeal.
