RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to correct weight, the connections of 9 Famous Anson (2nd placed getter) lodged an objection against 1 Golden Wai being declared the winner by the Judge on the grounds of indirect interference in the home straight, and the connections of 2 Top Mountain Hero (3rd placed getter) lodged an objection against 1 Golden Wai being declared the winner by the Judge on the grounds of interference in the home straight. Evidence was taken from the rider W H Lao and Mr. W K Lam the trainer of 9 Famous Anson, rider K H Yu and Mr. S H Cheong the trainer of 2 Top Mountain Hero and rider S H Huang and Mr. K C Tse trainer of 1 Golden Wai.
It was established that approaching the 100 metres 1 Golden Wai shifted out and bumped 2 Top Mountain Hero unbalancing that gelding. 2 Top Mountain Hero then shifted out whilst being ridden with the whip, and near the winning post had to be steadied when tightened for room between 9 Famous Anson and 1 Golden Wai which again shifted out under pressure. During this incident 9 Famous Anson was bumped by 2 Top Mountain Hero and became unbalanced.
After taking into account the beaten margins of a half length, plus a head and the close proximity to the winning post, the Stewards were of the view that had the incident not occurred, neither 9 Famous Anson or 2 Top Mountain Hero would have finished ahead of 1 Golden Wai, and as such dismissed both objections and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
At a later inquiry, Jockey S H Huang the rider of 1 Golden Wai pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i). In lieu of one racemeeting suspension, Jockey S H Huang will be fined 50% of his total earnings for the racemeeting of Saturday, 28 January 2023. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his riding record, his guilty plea, the degree of interference, the level of carelessness and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
