RACE-4 THE KAGOSHIMA (Div.1) RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1350 METRES (181)

1 Big Handsome (I Poullis) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Happy Cat (Apprentice A Liu) - At the start shifted in and away from 4 Canton Rose. Had a tendency to lay in throughout the event.
3 Laestephe Warrior (W H Lao) - Was marginally slow to begin, and then had to be steadied when tightened for room between 5 Farmer's Voice and 1 Big Handsome, both of which shifted ground. Tailed the field throughout the event despite urgings of its rider before making some ground in the straight. Rider was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted. He stated 3 Laestephe Warrior which was having its first start today struck interference at the start and then raced with its head up and its mouth open and refused to stretch out. He added that 3 Laestephe Warrior did not negotiate the first turn very well which placed him wider on the track. He said that in the back straight, due to the manner in which the gelding was racing, he was content to stay wide and out of the kickback, as he was of the view that if he dropped down to the rail, 3 Laestephe Warrior would resent the kickback bearing in mind tonight’s track condition. His comments were noted. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K M Chin was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
