RACE-5 THE CATTERICK RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (282)
1 Lucky Runner (A Da Silva) - After being loaded into the barrier stall, became fractious and then cast. Was a late scratching by Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer C W Choi was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race until a veterinary clearance is produced and until the gelding has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. The trainer was also informed that he would be required to present 1 Lucky Runner to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 09 July 2023. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to both hind legs.
2 Hostwin Winbull (K H Yu) - Jumped outwards before being corrected by its rider.
3 Twotochoose (Apprentice A Liu) - Shifted out after jumping away and bumped 5 Easy Ace. As a result became slightly unbalanced.
4 City Gold Lodge (L Corrales) - Passing the 900 metres, had to be severely checked. (See inquiry report)
7 Famous Nathan (Apprentice Tesuri) - Was marginally slow to begin.
8 Pearl Big Brother (M Tanaka) - Became unbalanced when racing in restricted room after passing the 900 metres.
9 Organic Winner (C Perkins) - Stumbled on jumping away, as a result lost some ground. After passing the 900 metres, shifted out slightly, brushed 10 More Than Reward and had its hind quarters turned.
10 More Than Reward (M Alvarez) - Bumped the barrier stall when the gates were released and lost ground. For a short distance approaching the 800 metres, raced in restricted room between 8 Pearl Big Brother and 9 Organic Winner which rolled out slightly.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 900 metres. S H Huang, rider of 5 Easy Ace, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that near the 900 metres, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, resulting in 4 City Gold Lodge having to be severely checked. S H Huang had his license to ride in races suspended for 3 race days covering the meetings of 22 & 30 July 2023 and 5 August 2023, and he was fined the sum of HKD 3,500. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his poor record, the level of interference and degree of careless. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
