RACE-1 THE DONCASTER RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (278)
2 Winnie Star (A Da Silva) - Raced wide without cover. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight before being corrected by its rider passing the 200 metres.
3 Wealthy Sun (I Poullis) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Bolson (M Tanaka) - Passing the 1300 metres, was inconvenienced by 6 Laestephe Warrior which shifted out and away from 10 Beauty Legend. Became unbalanced after passing the 800 metres. Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run from passing the 300 metres until near the 200 metres.
6 Laestephe Warrior (C L Cheung) - Checked after passing the 400 metres. (See inquiry report).
7 Star Akia (L Corrales) - Performed below market expectations. Rider stated that his mount travelled well throughout the race, however did not finish off as he would have expected when placed under pressure in the straight.
8 Destiny Flight (C Perkins) - Approaching the 1200 metres, had to be eased to avoid heels of 4 Bolson (M Tanaka) which shifted in when not fully clear. M Tanaka was reprimanded and notified to ensure he is fully clear of other runners when shifting ground. Stewards questioned rider C Perkins as to why he restrained his mount at the start when the gelding usually settles in a more forward position. He stated that he was instructed to come back from his wide alley today. He said that approaching the 1200 metres, he had to ease from heels and lost a little ground, however his mount enjoyed a nice run throughout the race and worked home well in the straight. Trainer K H Leong stated that it was his intention for 8 Destiny Flight not to go forward from the wide alley, however he did not expect the gelding to settle as far back as it did today.
10 Beauty Legend (Apprentice A Liu) - Was a little slow into stride.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 400 metres. M Tanaka, rider of 4 Bolson, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that near the 400 metres, he permitted his mount to shift out, resulting in 6 Laestephe Warrior being tightened for room between 4 Bolson and 8 Destiny Flight and having to be checked. M Tanaka had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 race day covering the meeting of Saturday, 22 July 2023 and fined the sum of HKD 4,500. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his good recent record his guilty plea, the racing manners of 6 Laestephe Warrior which may have had a slight bearing on the incident and other mitigating factors. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
