Race Report

RACE-2 THE CLYDEBANK RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (304)

1 Courier Specialty (M Alvarez) - Had a tendency to lay in in the straight.
3 Topmountain King (I Poullis) - Was slow into stride, then shifted in and had to be steadied away from heels of 6 Handsome Joyful. Raced untractably for a short distance on joining the course proper.
4 Falcoshow (M Tanaka) - From after passing the 400 metres until near the 250 metres, was held up when disappointed for a run between 6 Handsome Joyful and 2 Racing Master.
5 Vector (K F Choi) - Was slow to begin (2L).
6 Handsome Joyful (K H Yu) - Unplaced favorite. Rider could offer no real excuses, however thought the gelding may be better suited for a shorter distance.
7 West Garden (C L Cheung) - Beaten 33 lengths. Rider stated his mount travelled well throughout the race, however was a beaten horse after passing the 600 metres and he felt something may have been amiss with it. Trainer K M Chin stated that the gelding may not have backed up after racing last week. The trainer was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. The trainer was also informed that he would be required to present 7 West Garden to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination and endoscopic examination on Sunday, 6 August 2023. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
