Race Report

RACE-4 THE DUNDEE RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1200 METRES (311)

2 Brother Lian'An (M Tanaka) - Was reluctant to proceed to the barrier stalls. A warning was placed on the gelding for its pre-race behavior. Bounded when the gates were released and lost a little ground.
5 Set My Heart (I Poullis) - Hampered near the 250 metres. (See inquiry report) Performed below market expectations. Rider stated that his mount was not comfortable in today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality
7 Twotochoose (L Corrales) - L Corrales explained when questioned that it was anticipated pre-race that there would be speed from several runners to his inside. Therefore due to his wide barrier draw, if he was unable to go forward, he was instructed to attempt to obtain a mid-field position with cover. He said he settled further back than expected, however was able to save ground by obtaining a position on the rail. He said he commenced to place his mount under pressure from the 500 metres, and although it had not been entirely comfortable in the conditions through the early and middle stages of the race, it ran home well in the straight.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 250 metres. S H Huang, rider of 8 Good World, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out when not clear of 5 Set My Heart, resulting in 5 Set My Heart being hampered and taken out off its course. S H Huang had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 race day, covering the race meeting of Saturday, 26 August 2023, and fined the sum of HKD 2,500. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the level of carelessness and interference, the guilty plea, S H Huang’s riding record and extenuating circumstances. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
