Race Report

RACE-5 THE CHIEF SINGER RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3 &4) 1510 METRES (45)

1 Simon Fubuki (L Corrales) - Commenced a little awkwardly and lost some ground.
2 Zhi You Bing Mao (K F Choi) - Was slow into stride. Raced wide before obtaining cover near the 700 metres. Beaten in excess of 43 lengths. Trainer W K Lam was informed that 2 Zhi You Bing Mao will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. The trainer was also informed that he would be required to present 2 Zhi You Bing Mao to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 26 November 2023.
3 Treasurelakebuddy (C Perkins) Performed below expectations. Rider stated his mount commenced well and travelled well throughout the race, however did not respond when placed under pressure in the straight.
5 Who Loves Sushi (S Nakano) - Beaten in excess of 29 lengths. Trainer M C Tam was informed that 5 Who Loves Sushi will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
6 Armed (M Tanaka) - Struck the side of the barrier stall when jumping away. Laid out rounding the turn into the back straight. Unplaced equal favorite. Rider explained he was held up rounding the home turn behind 5 Who Loves Sushi and the gelding was then one-paced to the line.
8 Iu Cheong Master (Apprentice X C Liang) - On jumping away became unbalanced and bumped by 10 Set My Heart.
9 Star of Wing Yan (Apprentice L Li) - Reared slightly when the gates were released and struck the side of the barrier stall. As a result lost ground (4L).
10 Set My Heart (I Poullis) - Stumbled on jumping, shifted out and contacted 8 Iu Cheong Master. Beaten in excess of 25 lengths. Trainer C F Chan was informed that 10 Set My Heart will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 1300 metres. S Nakano, rider of 5 Who Loves Sushi, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 1300 metres when insufficiently clear of 8 Iu Cheong Master which had to be checked. S Nakano had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 race day, covering the racemeeting of Saturday 16 December. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the level of carelessness and interference, S Nakano’s careless riding record and the guilty plea. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
