Race Report

RACE-5 THE SWAN HILL RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1510 METRES (51)

5 Sunrise Eagle (C Perkins) - Was slow to begin (1L).
6 Yatholing (S Nakano) - Checked, clipped heels and blundered around the 1350 metres, resulting in the rider losing the use of his stirrup irons, before regaining his irons near the 1100 metres. (See inquiry report) Eased down from the 400 metres and beaten in excess of 51 lengths. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that 6 Yatholing will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Ronson (S H Huang) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer W L Ho was informed that the normal stand down period applies and 9 Ronson will be required to undergo an Official Barrier Trial and a Veterinary Clearance must be produced prior to racing again.
10 Fortune Ahead (C L Cheung) - Approaching the 1200 metres was hampered and tightened for room when placed in restricted room between 8 Twin Cam and 1 Baby Shark.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident around the 1350 metres. Apprentice X C Liang pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1350 metres he rode his mount in, taking 10 Fortune Ahead in onto 1 Baby Shark which was tightened in onto 6 Yatholing, which lost its rightful running and had to be checked. When being checked 6 Yatholing clipped heels and blundered, resulting in the rider losing his use of the stirrup iron for some considerable distance. Also during the incident, 1 Baby Shark had to be checked. In laying the charge, Stewards acknowledged 2 Lucky Chariot may have rolled out, however did not believe it had any significant bearing on the incident. Apprentice X C Liang had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race days, covering the racemeetings of Friday 5 January and Saturday 6 January 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the level of carelessness and interference, Apprentice X C Liang’s careless riding record and the guilty plea. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
