Race Report

RACE-4 THE BEACON HILL RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1350 METRES (299)

1 Korean Dream (L Corrales) –Raced three wide without cover.
2 Mackinac Island (A Calder) –It was noted that the gelding had blood from one nostril on return to scale. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding which was disappointing failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis. Jockey A Calder was issued with a severe reprimand for accidentally dropping his whip near the 250 metres. In arriving at this decision, the Stewards took into account his good record on this rule.
3 Tuhao Power (C Perkins) –Shifted in when the gates were released and made contact with 5 Voguish. Shortly after the start was steadied when placed in restricted room between runners.
5 Voguish (W L Ho) –After jumping away became unbalanced after being brushed by 3 Tuhao Power. Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises and as a result he eased it down in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that he would be required to present 5 Voguish to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination, including an endoscopic examination on Sunday, 19th June 2016. In addition it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
7 Gauteng (K W Leong) –Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after this had to be steadied and tightened for room between 1 Korean Dream which was taken in by 6 Ruling Elite and 3 Tuhao Power which was taken out by 5 Voguish.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and at the same time the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 1 Korean Dream (2nd placed getter) against 8 Jovial Brown (L Salles) being declared the winner for alleged interference in the home straight. After reviewing the patrol films and considering all the evidence, it was established that inside the 100 metres 8 Jovial Brown shifted out and bumped 1 Korean Dream which became slightly unbalanced and was taken out of its course marginally, then inside the 50 metres 8 Jovial Brown again shifted out and bumped 1 Korean Dream taking that gelding further out of its course. As the Stewards believed that the interference suffered by 1 Korean Dream was greater than the beaten margin of a nose, the protest was upheld and Judge’s placings were reversed to read:
1st 1 Korean Dream (L Corrales)
2nd 8 Jovial Brown (L Salles)
