Race Report

RACE-2 THE HARTFORD 2&3-YEAR-OLD (RATING 55-0) 1350 METRES (250)

1 Bunce (L Salles) - Cast both its front plates during the run. Disappointing performance. Rider L Salles reported that in his opinion given the weight his mount was conceding to all other runners he was satisfied with the performance tonight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
2 Son Of Unicorn (L Corrales) – Was slow to muster speed.
3 Hostwin Treasure (W L Ho) – Checked near the 1300 metres. Disappointing performance. Rider W L Ho reported that after receiving interference shortly after the start, his mount raced further back in the field than anticipated and resented the kick back. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Lucky And Fortune (R Curatolo) – Trainer J M Moore was fined the sum of HK$1,000 for presenting the gelding with incorrect gear. Near the 1250 metres had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of 1 Bunce.
5 River Dream (K W Leong) –Hung out rounding the first turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, in particular the reason for 5 River Dream racing wide throughout the race, Jockey K W Leong reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race and when he attempted to obtain a position closer to the running rail in the back straight, 5 River Dream resented the kick back. For this reason he shifted wider on the track as it was his opinion his mount would race far more tractably when out of the kick back.
8 Cheerful Companion (A Aucharuz) – On jumping away was momentarily tightened for room between 4 Lucky And Fortune and 1 Bunce both of which shifted ground. After passing the 400 metres was bumped by 7 Power Savabeel which shifted in.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey K K Lai the rider of 6 Winner Fortune pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that approaching the 1300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 3 Hostwin Treasure (W H Lo) which was tightened between 6 Winner Fortune and 5 River Dream (K W Leong) and had to be checked. During this incident 5 River Dream was hampered. Jockey K K Lai’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of 27th and 28th May 2016. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his recent record, the degree of interference and the level of carelessness, noting that Jockey K K Lai did make some effort to relieve the pressure after the tightening had occurred. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
