Race Report

RACE-1 THE FORTALEZA DO MONTE RATING 40-20 (CLASS 5) 1200 METRES (1)

2 Leader All The Way (K H Yu)-On jumping away became unbalanced after being brushed by 5 Gem Fighter.
3 Exceedingly Dragon (C F Wong)-Was slow to begin; Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
6 Glory Spirit (B Yamzon)-Jockey reported that the horse was green and shall benefit from this run.
7 Explosive Blast (R Curatolo)-Was slow to begin. After passing the 1000 metres had to be steadied when close to heels. Shifted out rounding the home turn inconveniencing 12 Active Power and continued to shift out in the straight. Rider R Curatolo was advised that he must make greater effort to keep his mount straight at all time.
9 Great River (K W Leong)-Race three wide without cover throughout.
12 Active Power (Apprentice Y M Choi)-Rider reported that he had difficulty in obtaining clear running at the latter part of the home turn and in the early part of the straight when awkwardly placed between runners.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards questioned the connections of 12 Active Power (Apprentice Y M Choi) regarding the tactics adopted upon that gelding today in particular rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Apprentice Y M Choi advised that from a wide alley he had been instructed to settle the mount back with cover and to save ground with the intention of running home strongly in the home straight. He added that he had been held up for some distance at the latter part of the home turn and in the early part of the straight due to 7 Explosive Blast (R Curatolo) which racing to his inside, shifting out. For this reason was unable to put his mount under full pressure until obtaining a clear run near the 200 metres. Trainer K M Chin confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride today. He added that 12 Active Power may have been reluctant to take the run between horses at the top of the straight as it can be timid amongst runners. He further added that the gelding had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and that he and connections had supported the gelding.
The Stewards advised Apprentice Y M Choi that, whilst acknowledging that there had been a slight shift from the runner to his inside, in their opinion when the run presented at the top of the straight he should have commenced to ride his mount at that stage when there was opportunity to do so. He was further advised that he must ride his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.

VETERINARY:
6 Glory Spirit (B Yamzon)-A post race veterinary examination 6 Glory Spirit of which has performed poorly failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Active Power (Apprentice Y M Choi)-A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
