Race Report

RACE-4 THE SALT LAKE CITY RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1500 METRES (221)

1 Victory Moment (W L Ho) -Raced wide rounding the first turn.
2 Ashkari (W Smith) -Was slow to begin.
5 We Want Cash (M Wepner) -Was slow to begin.
6 Contented N Happy (L Corrales) -Leaving the 400 metres was bumped by 14 Wonder Holy which shifted out around the heels of 8 Horsenumberone which continued to yield ground.
8 Horsenumberone (F Henrique) -Compounded badly from the 600 metres and was eased out of the race in the home straight. Rider reported his mount began well and travelled strongly in the lead however near the 600 metres where he placed 8 Horsenumberone under pressure the gelding began to flounder in the going and began to yield ground quickly. He added in the home straight he had concerns that 8 Horsenumberone may have suffered a bleeding attack and elected to ease it out of the race. He further added that in his opinion the gelding did not handle today’s heavy track condition and maybe better suited to races of a shorter distance at this stage of its preparation. Trainer K S Wong also reported that in his opinion 8 Horsenumberone did not appear to handle today’s track condition and maybe better suited to races of a shorter distance. The Stewards noted their explanations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he would be required to present 8 Horsenumberone to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 14th April 2019.
11 Eclair Sunshine (C F Chan) -Stood flat footed of its own accord and missed the start by a considerable distance. Trainer K S Wong was informed that 11 Eclair Sunshine will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
13 Pearl Win Win (M Nunes) -Near the 500 metres was forced wider on the track by 3 Luen On Treasure which shifted out around the heels of 1 Victory Moment to improve. Jockey S Nakano the rider of 3 Luen On Treasure was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
14 Wonder Holy (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Near the 500 metres has to be checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring 8 Horsenumberone.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry Sign” was semaphored to allow the Stewards an opportunity to reviewed the patrol film of the start to ascertain whether 11 Eclair Sunshine (C F Chan) had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 11 Eclair Sunshine stood flat footed of its own accord and missed the start by a considerable distance. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that 11 Eclair Sunshine had been afforded fair start and as such declared correct weight.
