RACE-2 THE QIQIHAR RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (261)
1 Eclair Hunter (O Chavez) -Near the 1300 metres was momentarily hampered by 8 Oh So Easy which when racing fiercely shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out.
2 One Belt One Road (L Corrales) -Near the 1300 metres was steadied away from the heels of 8 Oh So Easy which when racing fiercely shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Sportsmanship (S Nakano) -Near the 700 metres was brushed by 1 Eclair Hunter which shifted out slightly. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Near the 200 metres was bumped by 11 Qipao Queen which was taken out by 1 Eclair Hunter which shifted out under pressure. Near the 100 metres was momentarily taken wider on the track by 1 Eclair Hunter which shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider. Then over the concluding stages 1 Eclair Hunter shifted out abruptly under pressure and at the same time 3 Sportsmanship shifted in under pressure resulting in both horses bumping heavily. As the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was contributed by both horses shifting ground, the Stewards took no further action against any one rider, however advised all riders to exercise more care under similar circumstances.
4 Gem General (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
5 Nanhai One (R Maia) - Rider reported that his mount failed to handle tonight’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer C W Choi was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 1 June 2019.

8 Oh So Easy (K K Lai) -Was slow to begin. Leaving the 1300 metres commenced to race fiercely proving difficult for Jockey K K Lai to control and as a result raced up onto the heels of 7 Chappo and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. As a consequence 2 One Belt One Road was steadied and 1 Eclair Hunter hampered. 8 Oh So Easy then continued to race fiercely thereafter and was shifted wider on the track leaving the 1000 metres and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event. After considering all of the circumstances and having taken into account the racing manners of 8 Oh So Easy, the Stewards could not attribute blame to Jockey K K Lai. However, the Stewards informed Trainer K S Wong that a warning had been placed on 8 Oh So Easy for its racing manners.
11 Qipao Queen (C F Chan) -Leaving the 200 metres had to be checked.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of race, the “Enquiry Sign” was semaphored to allow the Stewards to view the official patrol film of the home straight and at the same time heard an objection lodged by Jockey S Nakano the rider of 3 Sportsmanship (5th placed horse) against 1 Eclair Hunter (O Chavez) which was placed 3rd for alleging interference in the home straight. After reviewing the patrol film and hearing the evidence, it was established that near the 100 metres 1 Eclair Hunter shifted out under pressure resulting in 3 Sportsmanship being momentarily shifted out off its course. It was then established that over the concluding stages 1 Eclair Hunter shifted out abruptly under pressure and at the same time 3 Sportsmanship was inclined to shift in under pressure resulting in both horses bumping heavily. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident over the concluding stages was contributed by both horses shifting ground and taking into account the beaten margin of 1 length, the Stewards did not believe that both incidents warranted a reversal of the placings and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 200 metres where 11 Qipao Queen had to checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Eclair Hunter (O Chavez), 3 Sportsmanship (S Nakano) and 11 Qipao Queen (C F Chan). Jockey O Chavez the rider of 1 Eclair Hunter pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i), in that leaving the 200 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of 11 Qipao Queen which was tightened for room and was checked when making contact with 3 Sportsmanship. Jockey O Chavez’s licence to ride in races was suspended for one racemeeting covering the meeting of 14 June 2019. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the degree of interference, the racing manners of his mount at the point the incident and his riding record. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
