Race Report

RACE-6 THE DEL MAR RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (36)

1 Ashkari (S Ladjadj) -Was slow into stride. Checked near the 850 metres and forced wider on the track. Rounding the home turn was hampered and was steadied away from the heels of the tiring 6 Whawei Spirit, as a result made the home turn wide.
2 Blackjack Mok (H Lam) -Raced fiercely in the middle stages.
4 Wealthy Emperor (F Henrique) -Was slow into stride and a short distance later was crowded for room between 3 Knows It All and 6 Whawei Spirit.
6 Whawei Spirit (T Appie) -Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K M Chin was informed that 6 Whawei Spirit which had been beaten in excess of 32 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
7 Northern Legend (W L Ho) -Near the 850 metres made contact with 9 Anak and was severely checked losing considerable ground. Near the 100 metres had to be eased away from the heels of the tiring 5 Wonder Holy and then had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Eclair Mirage (J B Hamel) -Raced wide without cover until near the 1000 metres.
9 Anak (K H Yu) - Near the 850 metres was severely checked, made contact with the running rail and lost significant ground. Near the 800 metres was eased out of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 850 metres whereby 1 Ashkari, 9 Anak and 7 Northern Legend had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Ashkari (S Ladjadj), 3 Knows It All (D Barros), 6 Whawei Spirit (T Appie), 9 Anak (K H Yu) and 7 Northern Legend (W L Ho). Jockey D Barros pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 850 metres when racing close to the heels of 6 Whawei Spirit, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of 9 Anak which was severely checked, made contact with the running rail and lost significant ground. 7 Northern Legend which was following made contact with 9 Anak and was severely checked, lost considerable ground and shifted out resulting in 1 Ashkari also being checked and was forced wider on the track. Jockey D Barros’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday, 1 November and Saturday, 2 November 2019. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
