Race Report

RACE-4 THE CHARLTON RATING 60-35 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (52)

5 Modena Best (L Corrales) -Rider reported his mount jumped well today, however failed to muster speed in the early stages and as a result settled at the tail of the field. He added he attempted to put 5 Modena Best into the race from the 700 metres, however the gelding did not respond to his riding and was one paced in the run to the finish. He further added that the drop back in distance from the 1800 metres at its most recent start did not suit and he informed Trainer W Smith that in his opinion 5 Modena Best may benefit from a freshen up. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Pearl Lucky (C F Chan) -Near the 1400 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 11 Autumn Cloud which was taken in by 7 Trillion King which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey K H Yu the rider of 7 Trillion King was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times. Leaving the 1200 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room by 3 Bring Me Glory which was taken in by 12 Chinese Hero which after improving quickly to the inside of 2 Rose Hero was taken in by that runner which after initially being hampered and forced wider on the track by 11 Autumn Cloud, then shifted back in. After considering all of the circumstances leading up to the incident, the Stewards took no further action other than to advise Jockey J B Hamel the rider of 2 Rose Hero and Jockey Y M Choi the rider of 11 Autumn Cloud to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
9 Chak Chak (B Yamzon) -Was slow to begin and was then slow into stride. Trainer K M Chin was informed that a warning had been issued against 9 Chak Chak in relation to its barrier manners.
11 Autumn Cloud (Y M Choi) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Chinese Hero (S Nakano) -Jumped away awkwardly. Was held up on entering the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until the 150 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of 11 Autumn Cloud (Y M Choi). Evidence was taken from Jockey Y M Choi and Trainer K S Wong. Jockey Y M Choi the rider 11 Autumn Cloud pleaded guilty to charge under MJC Rule 132 (iii) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge are as follows:
1) After riding his mount along in the early stages and after having established a favorable position behind 6 Cherry Road (M Tanaka) leaving the 1200 metres, he shifted his mount out whilst riding it long to a three wide position without cover for some distance, covering extra ground which in the opinion of the Stewards was unreasonable to do so.
2) After having obtained the position outside of the leader 10 Colonel Mordaunt (S Ladjadj) leaving the 950 metres, he continued to ride his mount along until leaving the 700 metres, giving his mount no respite which in the opinion of the Stewards was unreasonable to do so.
Jockey Y M Choi’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of five racemeetings, covering the meetings of 11th, 12th and 18th December 2020 and 2nd and 8th January 2021. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey Y M Choi’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
