Race Report

RACE-3 THE JINAN RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1500 METRES (205)

2 Luen On Poseidon (C L Cheung) -Near the 400 metres was forced wider on the track by 8 Sacred Magnate which shifted out around the heels of 1 Electroplate Alloy to improve.
4 Oneofthegreats (W L Ho) -Near the 350 metres had to be checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Eclair Sunshine which was yielding ground.
5 Eclair Sunshine (W H Lao) -Was slow to begin. The Stewards inquired into the running and handling of 5 Eclair Sunshine ridden by Jockey W H Lao, in particular from the 1200 metres to the 600 metres. Jockey W H Lao stated that he was instructed to try to lead and added that after having ridden the gelding over the same track and distance on 20 February 2021 when ridden with cover, in his opinion his mount was one paced and failed to finish its race off. He stated that after discussions with the trainer, Mr. K S Wong that given how 5 Eclair Sunshine performed previously and its form suggested that it races best when able to lead in its races, it was agreed to try and lead in today’s race. He added that as 5 Eclair Sunshine was slow to begin, he had to ride his mount hard in the early stages in an attempt to comply with his instructions. He further added that near the 1200 metres when able to obtain a position outside of the leader 4 Oneofthegreats, he noticed that runner to be over racing and its rider attempting to steady his mount. As such he then was of the opinion that that runner would relinquish the lead to his mount and he therefore elected to proceed to ride his mount forward to obtain the lead position. He further added that when attempting to obtain the lead, 4 Oneofthegreats continued to over race to his inside and he was unable to clear that runner and obtain the lead position until near the 600 metres. Trainer K S Wong confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride and in his opinion, 5 Eclair Sunshine has performed best when able to lead in its races. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey W H Lao’s actions were not unreasonable under the circumstances, however advised him that he should have maintained his position outside of the leader 4 Oneofthegreats near the 1200 metres when there was an opportunity to do so and provided his mount respite. Furthermore, Jockey W H Lao was nevertheless reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Victory Moment (M Tanaka) -Was slow to begin. Was held up on entering the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Hostwin Aurora (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin. Near the 350 metres had to be checked when tightened for room between 10 Treasurelakebuddy which hung in despite the efforts of its rider and 6 Victory Moment which shifted out slightly when racing close to the heels of 4 Oneofthegreats which had to be checked away from the heels of 5 Eclair Sunshine which was yielding ground. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards deemed this a racing incident and no further action was taken.
