RACE-1 THE NEWBURY (SAND) (Div.2) RATING 35-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1510 METRES (283)

1 Freetowon (A Da Silva) - Stewards questioned Trainer W L Ho regarding the gelding leading tonight which is contrary to its usual racing pattern. He stated that he had instructed the rider to settle in a forward position and these instructions were the same as instructions issued at its previous starts. He said that the gelding had been unable to go forward at its recent runs however after commencing well tonight and with the step-up in distance, it was able to lead comfortably. He highlighted that he had removed the blinkers from 1 Freetowon and it was in his opinion more comfortable as it did not receive kickback. Shifted out when under pressure near the 100 metres.
2 Superlative Choice (Apprentice A Liu) - Blundered on jumping away, unbalancing its rider.
3 Beautiful Nineteen (C Perkins) - Raced wide without cover for the majority. Unplaced favorite. Rider stated he had been instructed to settle mid-field, however he was caught wide and his mount was then one-paced to the line. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Hyshem (H B Cho) - Failed to stretch out through the early and middle stages and became detached from the body of the field.
6 Golden Warrior (S H Huang) - Stumbled when the gates were released and lost ground.
8 House Of Power (M Alvarez) - For some distance approaching the 1200 metres when racing keenly, was restrained when awkwardly placed among heels.
